Paperless Post & A Buddy the Elf Themed Christmas Party!

Now that we have officially made it through Halloween (and baseball if you live in KC), it's time to start thinking about the holidays! I know ... it can be stressful.  One of my goals this year is to entertain at my house more, mayybe even throw a proper Christmas party.  My two-year-old is up in his crib developing sabotage plans as we speak.  Even so, I'm determined to do something fun to celebrate the holiday season and all of my wonderful friends.

My mom and I were just talking about the convenience of online invitations and how my generation seems to prefer them. It's the way we communicate now.  I have almost always used Paperless Post for online invitations when I host get-togethers and events.  I love that they offer all of the beautiful design that you can get with fancy paper stationery, but with the ease and efficiency of an online platform.  They actually offer hybrid online/paper products as well!

Quick Aside: I know many of y'all reading (Mom) are shaking your head, thinking that the art of a beautiful invitation is dying. Here are some pretty online holiday invitations from Paperless Post to help ease your mind:

Love the Blue & White Classic Invitation

Cute Kate Spade Invitation

Love the liner details

Again, pretty and classic
Really cute!

Paperless Post has so many cute Invites up right now that it's really getting me in the mood.  (Tip: the invitations are a great starting place to look for party theme inspiration as well).

(I swear I'm not on their payroll, I'm just a stationery and design nerd who gets really excited)

Okay, back to holiday entertaining!

Here's a little mood board  I put together for my own potential Christmas party.  I love the idea of hosting a laid-back tree trimming party to kick off the holiday season.

Tree Trimming Christmas Party

I'm definitely leaning toward something playful , but elegant enough to bring out all of my pretty things.  I'm inspired by my sister's engagement party last year hosted by our very close family friends, Phyllis and Rod.  They throw some amazing, fun parties.  Legendary, in fact.  They chose a light Buddy the Elf theme as their creative twist to the Christmas engagement party.  My sister loves the movie Elf so much she gets about 95 texts from people every time it comes on TV.  I say light Elf-themed because they also like to keep it classy.  It was perfect.

One can never have too many Christmas lights.  I loved the way they wove some larger lights inside the tree branches along with the traditional small Christmas lights.  Since the tree is center stage in a tree-trimming party, this is a lovely way to give it some extra sparkle.

"I'm a cotton headed ninny muggins"

One of my favorite things at the party was the cotton candy bar that greeted you when you walked in. Fluff pop is a Dallas-based gourmet cotton candy company that offers on-site cotton candy spinning for party guests. I didn't get a great picture of the Fluffpop DJs (get it?) at the party, but here's what the little cotton candy pops look like.

from the Fluffpop Facebook Page

They also offer The Mini Mason, which can be shipped anywhere and customized.

Here is a cute picture of my two sisters and I with our cotton candy pops.

It was such a fun "omg this is awesome" moment.

Here is an early picture of the food presentation.  Phyllis will cook everything for her own parties.   We're not sure how she does it.  I have no advice for that. Be amazing?

"We elves try to stick to the four main food groups: candy, candy canes, candy corn and syrup"

"Bye Buddy, hope you find your dad!"

Mantle decor inspired by an oft-quoted line in our household.

In this same room, an eggnog station.  Eggnog made from scratch.  That's just pure love right there.

"SON of a NUTcracker!"

"I passed through the seven levels of the Candy Cane forest, through the sea of swirly twirly gum drops, and then I walked through the Lincoln Tunnel."

So many little touches here and there that just added to the overall celebration.  And it was quite the celebration!
Do y'all have any fun holiday entertaining tips or traditions? I'd love to know!
