Sunday Slim Down: Week 4

Lbs of baby weight lost this week: 1.1
Total weight loss: 3.3
* This week I did little to no cooking or exercise.  Kip was out of town and I have a nasty cough so I was in survival mode.  I did stay under my calories for the most part, which is probably why I lost any weight at all.

You GUYS! I can already see a difference ... in my ankles and my wrists. Yep, I'm back into my pre-pregnancy wedding ring.

But then I see pictures like this

and I feel slightly defeated.

But I have to remember that I'm not a princess* nor am I the athletic type so I can't really compare myself to her.

* I'm not a princess that I know of. I'm always ready for Julie Andrews to show up and tell me I'm heir to the throne of a small European country.

And then there's this gal

Who is apparently "fit-shaming" women all over Facebook.  I didn't even know that was a thing.

And don't even get me started on Kim K. Click here to go to her Instagram if you haven't seen her bootylicious selfie.  (I maaayyyy have momentarily tried to recreate that pic in the mirror for half a second before I got embarrassed in front of myself)

My point is, there are images all over that can make us feel bad about ourselves after we have a baby.  In fact, I'm pretty sure the latter two ladies (not Kate) posted those pics because they once felt bad about themselves (Psychology 101).

But in reality, it's hard to lose even ONE pound a week for the average new mom.  Motherhood is such a beautiful, wonderful time and I find that putting on my blinders and focusing on the real reason I want to get back into my skinny jeans, to feel great and have energy for my kids, is what keeps me from feeling defeated.  And yes, for some new moms, it does fall right off and you can't hate them for being lucky. (yes, you can)

That being said, I'm so glad it's jacket season!

  1. I think you should pat yourself on the back! Slow and steady wins the race, and you seem to have a very good perspective. The celebrities you mentioned are aberrations, and let's don't forget these things: they have personal chefs who put what they are supposed to eat in front of them; they have nannies, maids, etc.; they all have personal trainers and maybe nutritionists; not mentioning any names, but some may have had some plastic surgery help.

    Hang in there!

  2. YOU GO GIRL!!! Thanks for the shout out! i'm sure you already have a awesome chili recipe, but adding unsweetened cocoa makes it just a little bit better :) http://www.theclothesmakethegirl.com/2009/02/22/my-favorite-chili-recipe/

  3. I like how your mentioning not no feel deflated by these images we see everywhere. At my daughter's school they have workshops for the girls every year where they teach and discuss healthy self image and how these photos aren't even real most of the time. The girls are shown how the images are manipulated in photoshop.

  5. Congrats on the HEALTHY weightloss for both you and your lil one. And I have to say that I'll I can think when I look at the Kim K photo is that she looks like she sat on a bee hive. I'm just confused by the photo---lol

  6. Fit shaming? Never heard of it sounds S C A R Y! :) Well I say kudos to you for doing it the RIGHT way, remember most of these celebs have endless numbers of trainers, nutritionists, dieticians, (plastic surgeons) in many cases......so its hardly fair to compare any of us to the way that they approach losing weight or anything for that matter. I would take being a few pounds heavier but being genuinely happy over being reed thin but having to conform to the intense pressures of the life they lead........no offense to Kim. K but I do not know that I would have publicized that photo....that takes the word booty to soaring heights (not in such a good way either). Keep up the great work!

(i.e. Your Comment: what's up with the Biebs and Selena Gomez? My Reply: I don't know but it's keeping me up at night. He's so cryptic on Instagram, it's hard to really know)
