White Walls

Yesterday we had the painter here to talk about painting our bedroom and Edward's future big boy room.  My friend, who was over earlier, asked eagerly what colors we were using.  I was like, "ummm Linen White for Edward's room and the same color as our trim  for our bedroom (Benjamin Moore Simply Irresistible)."  She laughed, "you and your white walls."  It's true.  All I want are white walls.  I'm so boring.

But I love white.  I wear it a lot.  I gravitate toward ads with a lot of white space - I know, random, I was an advertising major.  I can only sleep in white sheets.  And I feel like white walls only serve to highlight beautiful pieces of furniture and fun accent colors, especially blue and white.  I don't need all my walls to be white.  In fact, most of my walls were perfectly papered or painted when we bought the house.  But it seems to be the best choice for these rooms based on what I want to do decor-wise.

So here's my pitch for white.  Notice the rooms with beautiful wood pieces.  I have a whole pin board devoted to white & wood, that's how much I love it.

All of these spaces soothe me.  Of course, this totally may be a function of the post-Christmas need for simplicity.  I know, I'm not alone in that.  Just watch.  Come March, I'll be freaking out, "I neeeed color!!!!" And you'll be like, "Lady, pull it together! You just spent the last 6 months complaining about the color assault on your eyeballs."

Speaking of color, next week I'm going to reveal my selection for Belclaire House Color of the Year  - the color I need now (Remember when Southern Accents did that series.  sigh....) Any guesses? Hint: not white sillies.

Ok have a lovely day!

  1. PINK!!!!

Also, I do love the white walls very much. They are fresh, soothing, bright, and clean.

One day when I live in more than 6 square feet of space, please help me pick out paint colors.

  2. That French bed with fur blanket is very attractive combo, not often seen. The white walls you love are very European and growing up in them ... Grew appreciation for them. Sadly except for the kids bathroom, there is no white wall in our house... The French country yellow took centre stage, using Benjamin Moore danse du solei, it also serves as a canvas behind wood furniture... Love the white walls though, perhaps I find a room to do it. 3. I absolutely LOVE white walls! They are so fresh and crisp, and they serve as a perfect and timeless backdrop for any style of beautiful art and décor. I have been analyzing about 50 shades of white (not grey, ha!) from Benjamin Moore and Sherwin Williams over the past few months, and I think I have finally settled on SW Pure White and SW Extra White. Who would dream there were so many white paint selections to choose from?! Hmmm... I think you have inspired me to do a post on "50 Shades of White!" XOXO, The Glam Pad

  4. My family room is the only room downstairs that's white. I'm wishing I could go back in time and have the whole downstairs painted white instead of the pale blue/gray I chose. I love the crispness of the white. And to me, there's nothing more chic than an all white outfit.

  6. I have the Benjamin Moore linen white on most of my walls. The others have a pale gray. Linen white is a no brainier that works anywhere. It also has a soft, ever so slight yellow undertone that I really like. Gorgeous pictures!!!

  7. I am with you on the white walls. I definitely appreciate colored walls in other homes, but for my own I like keeping it light and neutral. Some might call it boring, I call it safe and flexible that way you aren't locked in!! If i were ever brave enough to do something really out there...it would be a high gloss super dark moss green or dark navy. Its all or nothing for me...but linen white suits me just fine in this lifetime:)

  8. My new favorite "non" color. I want an all white house with just a splash. Sounds like a cocktail.

  9. Funny. I think the house tells one what it wants. I have never in my life used as much color as in my current abode, but place seems to want it, and just gets happier and happier the more I add.

    1. I can definitely see that point! I say do whatever makes you happy. There are certainly some rooms in this house that shouldn't be white.

  11. Obviously I'm biased but I have really grown to love white walls. I particularly enjoy a nice warm white which allows architectural features to show. Go for it!
